Natural History Museum, Lok Virsa sign MoU of collaboration

ISLAMABAD (August 9, 2016): Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH) and National Institute of Folk & Tradional Hertiage (Lok Virsa) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Lok Virsa Heritage Museum, Shakarparian on August 9, 2016.

Lok Virsa Executive Director Dr. Fouzia and DG PMNH Dr. Muhammad Khan Leghari signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf (S.I) witnessed the signing ceremony.Under the MoU, PMNH and Lok Virsa will promote exchange of information and materials of mutual interest for furtherance of objectives enshrined in their respective mandates.

They will also promote and facilitate the exchange of expertise in the field of museology. PMNH will provide expertise to Lok Virsa Heritage Museum in taxidermy work, especially for maintenance of existing animal figures and fabrication of new animal figures on as and when required basis.

Both the museums will provide access to their museums during various programs/activities on mutual agreed terms & conditions. During the Folk Festival of Pakistan “Lok Mela” organized by Lok Virsa annually, the PMNH will participate by setting up a scientific stall at the festival venue and screening of 3D movies at the PMNH auditorium to educate and create awareness of natural wealth of Pakistan among the masses. PMNH will also facilitate Lok Virsa by providing free space in front of their premises and adjoining areas for car parking during the said Lok Mela.

Both the institutions shall, where feasible, jointly explore, initiate and undertake fundraising projects, industry / market-oriented projects and any other activities related to the areas of their mutual interest for development of surrounding areas of museums working under them to attract more public for visits subject to observance of relevant rules and procedure.

They will make special efforts with CDA authorities to establish Safari train projects at Shakarparain, which is already approved in the master plan of Islamabad. This will enhance the public visits and create cultural & natural wealth awareness among the masses for sustainable development of the country.

Joint and collaborative efforts through Pakistani media shall also be undertaken by both the museums to advertise the activities of museums working under them to attract more public for cultural and natural wealth awareness and education.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman PSF said that PMNH and Lok Virsa are situated on Garden Avenue, Shakarparian, Islamabad and working for promotion of culture and information regarding natural resources and heritage of Pakistan through exhibits, cultural and scientific fairs, etc. through different activities/events/programs. He said that PMNH is a subsidiary of Pakistan Science Foundation, which is working under Ministry of Science and Technology. Highlighting the mandate of PSF, he said, the Foundation is striving hard to create a culture of knowledge-based economy through promotion of scientific research in the country and in this regard it has under-taken various programmes such as Science Talent Farming Scheme, Inquiry-Based Science Education, Science Caravans, funding for research projects, Academia and Industry Linkage programme and Natural Science Linkage Programme etc.
