Pakistan Science Foundation

Under the MoU on the "Joint Operating Arrangement for Cooperation in the Field of Natural Sciences" singned between Ministry of Science & Technology and United State Department of Agriculture, the Natural Science Linkage Programme (NSLP) has been launched. It is being managed by Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF).

The NSLP Endowment Fund is being utilized for funding of projects of applied nautre in Agriculture and related Sciences for the benefit of farmers. Following are the priority areas of research under NSLP:

        1.      Collection, Evaluation and Exchange of Germplas
        2.      Plant Genomics
        3.      Plant Biotechnology
        4.      Stress Biology
        5.      Bio Informatics
        6.      Application of Information Technology in Agriculture
        7.      Identification and Control of Anmail/Plant Diseases
        8.      Dryland Sustainable Agriculture Production Systems
        9.      Biotechnology/Microbiology and Agribusiness Development
        10.     Chemistry
        11.     Biology
        12.     Biophysics
        13.     Environmental Sciences

13 projects on prioritized areas, jointly evaluated by two Pakistani Scientists and one US Scientist, in various fields of Agriculture Sciences are being funded under NSLP.

Procedure for Project Funding

Projects proposals, submitted under the NSLP, are evaluated initially by two Pakistani and on U.S. Subject Expert in the relevant fields and then by the PSF-NSLP Technical Committee which recemmends the projects for approval on the basis of technical merit and relevance to the socio-economic needs of the country. Research grants are released to P.Is on 6 monthly basis. The progress of research is monitored through evaluation of semi-annual and annual reports from grantee, on site monitoring of projects by NSLP Officer.
