Research Support
During 2003-2004, a total 231 projects in the fields of Agriculture, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Medical Sciences and Physics remained under consideration. Among these, 113 projects were under process, out of these, 26 projects costing 19.347 million were sanctioned in various fields, while 118 remained on-going. Nine research papers from PSF funded projects were published in different scientific journals.Further-more, three M.Sc and one M.Phil. degrees were awarded to the Research Associates employed under PSF supported projects.
Institutional Support
An amount of Rs. 1.737 million was released to various institutions as institutional support grant for purchase of laboratory equipment and accessories.
Financial Assistance
The Foundation provided financial assistance amounting to Rs. 0.531 million to various universities and R&D organizations for organizing 14 national and international science conferences, seminars, symposia etc.
Science Caravan
During the year under report, the Caravan units organized 33 mobile exhibitions and planetarium shows, wherein more than 430 schools brought their students to witness the exhibition and planetarium/film shows.
Donations
Some 12000 copies of popular science magazine "Global Science" were donated to 1000 high schools.
World Science Day
In collaboration with S&T R Division (MoST) the Foundation organized the "World Science Day for Peace & Development" (WSDPD) on 10th November 2003.
Workshop on "Wealth Generation Through Research"
Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman, adviser to the Prime Minister for Science & Technology, was the Chief Guest of the event. PSF & NUST jointly organized an International Workshop on "Wealth Generation through Research" on 3rd December 2003 at PSF Auditorium. Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Science & Technology was the Chief Guest. Reputed Scientists, Technologists and Engineers also participated in the workshop from various Universities/R&D organizations.
Financial Support to Scientific Societies in Pakistan
During the year under report an amount of Rs. 7.00 million was paid to 20 Scientific Societies.
Travel Grants
82 scientists availed travel grants. Funds amounting to Rs.5.4 million were released in this regard.
Career Development of Young Scientists
An amount of Rs. 1.30 million was released for 20 on going projects. 15 semi annual and ls' annual reports of the ongoing projects were received and were processed accordingly.
